I am writing to report a serious safety issue involving my Lexus RX350. While driving on the freeway with my [XXX] child, I suddenly heard a loud explosion-like sound coming from the roof. To my shock, I discovered that the sunroof glass had shattered into pieces. Fortunately, the sunroof cover was closed, preventing glass from entering the cabin and potentially causing severe injuries. When I contacted my Lexus dealership, they acknowledged that another GX had come in just the previous week with the exact same issue. They insisted that a rock was the cause. However, I find it extremely concerning that a small rock could cause such catastrophic failure, indicating that the glass material may be dangerously flimsy. This incident has left me deeply shaken, as it could have resulted in severe injury or even loss of control of the vehicle. I am afraid for my safety and that of my family, knowing that this could happen again. I urge NHTSA to investigate whether this is a defect in the sunroof design or material quality, as it poses a significant risk to drivers and passengers.
