My son and I were almost killed the other day because the engine of my 1 year old car failed. We were in the middle of 6 lanes of rushing highway traffic when the car stopped accelerating and came to a dead stop. I had just had the car serviced 10 days before and didn’t feel, hear or see anything hit my car. The message on my dashboard said ‘go to the dealer’ when it should have said ‘pull over immediately, turn off your car and call for help’. The dealership told me that a rock must have gone through the grill and punctured my radiator. They explained that radiators used to be made of copper and now are made of aluminum and are very fragile. They also said that the spaces in the grill should be smaller so it’s not so easy for rocks or debris to get to the radiator. I asked if this was a common occurrence and they told me they’ve seen it 3 times in 2 years just at this one dealership. I feel the design of the grill is a safety hazard and warrants a recall. I’m afraid someone else won’t be as lucky as me. We could have easily been killed or caused a massive car pile up on that highway that resulted in many people being injured. It was terrifying. I called manufacturer’s customer service department to share this and asked that the error message be changed. They referred me to you regarding the design flaw of the grill.
