The system that failed was the wire harness for the internal brake control. This is a well documented problem on YouTube and Reddit. I was driving home from the mountains, with my 7K lb camper, and I started receiving incessant messages alternating between ‘Trailer Brakes Disconnected’ and ‘Trailer Brakes Connected’. The messages made it impossible to see the speedometer and hear music or calls. Most importantly, I lost my trailer brakes in the mountains of North Carolina. Meaning the only way I could slow down was with my truck brakes, while a 7,000 lb camper was pushing me. I took my truck to the dealership today and paid $166 for a diagnostic. The stated the issue was with my camper. I tried to explain that many owners were having this problem and it is well documented. They stated there was no recall on my vehicle and gave me a print out of what to check on my camper. I checked my camper and there are no issues and no issues when i connect it to my other vehicle.
