The brake vacuum pump on the 2014-2018 chevy silverado has intermittent failures causing reduced brakes, which is a major safety issue. Gm has this listed under a ‘special coverage warrenty’ instead of a recall and wont fix this because the warrenty ended 6/24 or 150k miles(mine onpy has 125k). Luckily I didn’t have any traffic infront of me and the street light had just turned red and the cross traffic hadn’t started to move yet. When I contacted gm about this I talked to 3 different representatives 2 were the initial points of contact, the first stated I would be reimbursed due to this being a safety issue, the second said the first was talking about a ‘general warrenty’…? The third was a supposed ‘ supervisor who was obviously reading from a script and chose his words very carefully when telling me that because the speciap coverage warrenty was up GM wasn’t going to do anything about this which is a leagal way of saying their are ok with this known issue on their trucks out in the world. Probably because it’ll be cheaper to have their lawyers fight a lawsuit than to pay for the parts and labor to have this known safety issue fixed.
