The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH, there was an abnormal tapping sound coming from the roof of the vehicle. After a visual inspection, the contact observed that the front portion of the roof rack had detached. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the roof rack retention pins. The vehicle was repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V316000 (Structure); the VIN was included, but the vehicle was already repaired under the recall.
