RE: NHTSA recalls 22V-696 and 23V-62 While parked at a State Camp Ground the Carefree Awning opened violently. If someone had been standing outside near the Van they surely would have bee hit/injured. Conditions; Sunny afternoon, no Wind, Flat surface. I am the 2nd Owner of the Winnebago Travato Camper Van. Through my own research prior to buying the Van I was aware that there had been issues with the Carefree Awnings. The Seller of my Van completed the recalls with repairs at the dealership where the Van was purchased. I am concerned that the issue does not seem to be completely resolved. I contacted Winnebago and La Mesa RV in the Phoenix AZ area for assistance. La Mesa RV replied directing me to Contact Winnebago…..no response yet. I am hoping that this report will further the investigation as to why Winnebago has not simply replaced the defective awnings with a comparable and SAFE product.
