The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and occupied, while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal rattling coming from the engine. The contact stated that a dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired, but was in the process of being repaired. The contact stated that the cam phasers were replaced several years ago under warranty. The contact related to the failure of the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Engine Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the vehicle was not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
