The first time this happened I was at a light waiting for it to turn green. My car went into a shutdown mode and gave me a message of ‘ Auto Stop is Off. Shift to P or N Start Engine Manually’. I tried repeatedly to restart the car after putting it into park, but it wouldn’t respond. Finally, after 5 minutes of sitting blocking traffic, the engine started, and I drove away. This has now been happening off and on for 3 days. I cannot be stranded in a 50 mile an hour zone blocking traffic. It’s an accident waiting to happen. After doing some research online I discovered this has been happening to Hyundai vehicles of different models for over 8 years! Why has Hyundai not recalled this? I think it’s a manipulation to force you into one of their shops. I contacted several Hyundai dealerships to speak with someone who knows of this issue. One service manager told me it sounds like it needs a computer update. I ask the cost, and he said $260 and that ds not guarantee it will fix the problem.
